Golf Ground Under Repair, Westchester Golf Course

10-7-17 Got Grubs?

Last weekend we had a little damage on #5 green tee.  A small amount which the guys were able to easily repair.  Monday we came to see this:DSCF4361

I pulled back some of the good area to view these critters.  Dr. Shetlar at OSU refers to them as “Lawn Shrimp”.  You can see why he would call them that.DSCF4364

The interesting thing is that there was no surface signs of damage.  So we went to the back to see if I had any grub control in stock.  I usually keep a couple of bags around to spot apply damaged areas.  No luck.  I stopped by that afternoon to pick up a couple of bags of Dylox.  When we returned the next day this is what we found.DSCF4370

So we laid the sod back, tamped it in place, spread the Dylox, watered it in.  The next day we had no new damage.  Either the Dylox works very well or they were full from over eating.  We will be checking it daily.

The USGA keeping up with our grub populations.  Double Trouble…
